PRACTICE:

The Nutritional Disorders Clinic opened in 1985. The clinic is directed by Dr.Levy and cares for patients using a multi-disciplinary team with expertise in the management of the principle nutritional problems, Obesity, Hyperlipidemias, and Diabetes. Adults and children are seen by referral only.

HOSPITAL PRACTICE:

Dr.Levy was a member of the Division of Clinical Nutrition at the Hospital for Sick Children from 1983 to 1994. In 1994, Dr. Levy left hospital clinic practice to focus on research and business interests.

RESEARCH:

1. Dr. Levy has designed a special pasta product that meets HPB and FDA regulations for foods designated as " Meal Replacements "This pasta provides a nutritionally complete hot meal that,is low in fat and provides all the protein, vitamins and minerals found in a full dinner. The pasta is the worlds" first hot meal replacement .Compleat Foods Ltd. Intends to market this pasta in nursing homes and supermarkets across Canada.

MEDIA EMPLOYMENT:

1. Healthline was a nationally syndicated daily radio show. Along with co-host, Debbie van Kiekebelt, Dr.Levy started his sixth and final on air season in the spring of 1997. The show was sponsored by the Dairy Bureau of Canada and was heard 5 days a week across the country. Topics include general health issues and nutritional suggestions.

2. The Dini Petty Show ( CFTO-Toronto- show carried throughout Canada) employed Dr.Levy as their network physician 1994 and 95.

3. The Life Channel: In September of 1996 Dr.Levy hosted a new live to air show, " Free for the Asking." This weekly show was syndicated across the country and ran successfully for 2 years. The show continues in re-runs.

4. Hoffmann-LaRoche Obesity Management Team : Dr.Levy is one of the authors writing quarterly reports on Obesity management for physicians in Canada. These newsletters are sponsored by Hoffmann-LaRoche, a major pharmaceutical firm that has recently released a novel anti-obesity medication known as Xenical. He is also a member of the Roche team of experts advising on the management of Obesity.

5. Newspaper and Radio; Dr.Levy is regularly quoted in Canadas daily newspapers and appears frequently on TV and radio (Global TV, CFTO News, CFTR radio) discussing issues pertaining to diets and nutrition.

 

BUSINESS INTERESTS:

Compleat Foods Inc. :

Dr. Levy's specialty foods company, Compleat Foods Inc., began operations to distribute its hot meal replacement pasta in Canada in June 2000.

 

WRITING In 2000:

Dr.Levy completed a book on Obesity management entitled Conquering Obesity- Deceptions in the Marketplace and the Real Story. The book is published in Canada by Key Porter Books and was released in the USA titled Understanding Obesity. It is distributed in the USA by Firefly Books.

 

RESEARCH:

Dr.Levy in collaboration with psychologist Dr.John Fleming, has just completed a study demonstrating the role of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in the causation and maintenance of Severe Obesity. This research has shown that 32% of chronically obese individuals meet criteria for ADHD. This finding has significant implications for the management of Obesity and has never been reported before. It was presented in May 2001, as a lecture at annual the American ADHD convention in Seattle. This finding will be published in January 2002 in a book entitled Women and ADHD, edited by American psychologist Dr.Kathleen Nadeau.

 

ACTIVITIES:

Sporting activities include skiing, tennis, golf, and sailing. Dr. Levy holds a Commercial Pilots license and is rated for Single and Multi-engine, Land and Sea aircraft.
